I have a great appreciation for music, but I do not play any instruments or have a great singing voice. With that being said, I still try to incorporate songs into my teaching! For some students, simply putting the information they are learning about into a song is all it takes for it to click for them. I know that whenever I play a song that incorporates the topic we are learning about it makes the room less stressful and more fun. Schoolhouse Rock is a personal favorite of mine to use, here is one great example of how music can be a helpful way to teach something like grammar:

Throughout high school, I participated in as many music classes as I could. I love to sing and I wish I had more time to do it more in college. I think music is something that is important to think about when making a lesson plan. Even having a quick song at the beginning of your lesson as the anticipatory set can get the children excited about what they are going to learn. Schoolhouse Rock is definitely a great resource. I use another site as well. In my third grade classroom, I introduced this song about main idea and supporting detail. The students went nuts for this song because it is sung in a rap. Flocabulary is a great site with many different videos on different topics and the students love them.
